Yoga Nidra for Restorative Sleep (with Solar Plexus Chakra Music) – You Are Important

This 39-minute Yoga Nidra practice is designed to help you find restorative sleep. The practice also focuses on how very important you are.  It is a deeply calming track that contains music designed for the solar plexus chakra. It is ideal for the seasoned Yoga Nidra practitioner, but can be enjoyed by anyone. This practice does not contain any type of wording or signals to bring you out of Yoga Nidra meditation. The final 7-minutes of the practice contains only the gentle, soft music to help the listener be coaxed into sleep. It is based on the classic 8-stage Yoga Nidra technique, including a rotation-of-consciousness body scan, visualization, and sankalpa.

Special recognition and thanks to Rebecca Reads for her calming background music, Solar Plexus Chakra Note E.

Excellent Yoga Nidra Meditation: “Yoga Nidra: The Art of Yogic Sleep” by George Stephen Renfrey

Whether you have been practicing Yoga Nidra for a while or if you are new to it, this is a wonderful guided meditation by GS Renfrey!

Yoga Nidra: The Art of Yogic Sleep

I have listened to GS Renfrey’s Yoga Nidra meditation many times, and I still have not heard all of it in the awakened beta-brainwave state.  However, what I have heard is so reassuring and calming and helps me get into the meditative state.  I highly recommend it for practitioners at any level.

If you have Insight Timer, you can find this meditation by searching for “George Stephen Renfrey.”

If you do not have Insight Timer, what are you waiting for?  It is the #1 Meditation App out there! It is free and an outstanding app for meditation!  If you have any questions about meditation or Insight Timer, I would be very honored to provide any information I know about it.  The following link is to their website, and they have the links to download it to your phone.

Thank you for reading this blog, and I wish you many pleasant meditation experiences.

Waking up at 2 AM? Yoga Nidra can help you get back to sleep

Yoga Nidra is a powerful tool.  It is a guided meditation that helps your brainwaves change from Beta (alert/working state) to more relaxed states, Alpha, Theta, or Delta.

According to Scientific American, “Beta waves are characteristics of a strongly engaged mind.” Owlcation states, “Beta waves are the ‘normal’ state of brain waves.”

When we wake up in the middle of the night, sometimes our brains jump into the Beta state, making it difficult to fall back asleep.

When I first experienced Yoga Nidra, I was amazed by how quickly it led my brain to Alpha, Theta, or Delta states.  Here is a short list showing characteristics of each of these states:

  • Alpha – relaxed, calm, lucid, not thinking
  • Theta – deep relaxation, meditation, imagery
  • Delta – deep, dreamless sleep

Owlcation has a beautiful chart showing these brainwaves.

Yoga Nidra was effective for me even from the beginning.  The first practice I tried was a recorded meditation by Rod Stryker, which was almost 30 minutes long.  I felt like I had traveled through time.  The practice only felt like 5 minutes had passed.  I was hooked.

Practicing Yoga Nidra has made such a difference in my life that I have chosen to dedicate my time to learning more about it and to share Yoga Nidra with others.

Insight Timer – A Great Meditation App

Looking for a meditation app?  Insight Timer is it!  It is free and has many great guided meditations and useful features.  My meditations are available here as well.  When using the timer, you can pick background music or relaxing sounds (like rain) from their library.

Search for “Grace Warlick” to find my meditations on Insight Timer (http://insig.ht/graceyoga).  This is a great way to listen to them simply because this app was designed for listeners to meditate.  While YouTube is a good outlet for videos, it is not great for meditations because users have to keep their screen on while listening.  With Insight Timer, this is not an issue.

If you pay a monthly subscription, you will unlock some other features, such as offline listening.  However, if you do not want to pay, the free version works just fine.

Need a Power Nap? Yoga Nidra Can Help.

Yoga Nidra

Next time you need a power nap, Yoga Nidra can help.  The first time I experienced Yoga Nidra, I was amazed.  The only way I could describe it was “time travel yoga.”  Afterward I felt very refreshed.

This 19-minute recording is one resource for you on SoundCloud: Yoga Nidra Fully Present and Aware.  It can also be accessed on YouTube if that works better for you.

Other Resources for Power Naps

There are many excellent meditations and Yoga Nidra practices on the Insight Timer app.

Yoga Nidra – 15 minute practice

22279783_10101742944322589_8228673667666612923_n Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation, a tool rather, that helps the conscious mind move to a state between sleep and wakefulness.  Nidra means “sleep.”  In Yoga Nidra, the body sleeps and the consciousness remains aware.

When I began practicing Yoga Nidra, my conscious mind usually fell asleep.  I believe I fell asleep because I needed it.  Since high school, I slept fewer hours than was healthy for a growing mind and body.   I continued the pattern into college.  In my late 20’s and early 30’s, I tried to get quality sleep; however, my dreams were often of work.  Rarely did I have the much needed down time and rest.

Yoga Nidra is a wonderful tool that has helped and still helps my mind and body get the rest it needs.  Sometimes I prefer Yoga Nidra practices with music, and sometimes without.  Sometimes I want a long, 60-minute session, and sometimes I want a 5-minute, traditional 61-point session.  I believe our bodies let us know what we need.  I hope you enjoy this 15-minute Yoga Nidra practice.

If you have questions about Yoga Nidra or would like to invite me to lead a live session, please contact me.  I am glad to help.

Blessings,

Diana
